Healthy chocolate mug cake birds eye viewMug cakes are honestly one of my favourite ways to have a sweet treat. You don’t make a whole batch of something, and they are ready in under 10 minutes! Aside from being amazingly easy, this mug cake is rich, chocolatey and delicous!

I love the fact that these cakes are so versatile. You can add ice cream, chocolate chips or even whipped cream! I have to say that ice cream is definitely my favourite, I love the combination of the rich chocolate with cool vanilla ice cream. However, if you want a healthier alternative to ice cream you can always eat it plain, it honestly tastes amazing on its own. Or you can add some healthy banana nice cream.

Healthy chocolate mug cake spoonIf you don’t follow me on Instagram you may have missed my chatty post. I want to explain that it is okay to eat food that are classed as ‘unhealthy’ as well. I use to be scared to eat food that was ‘bad’ because I was paranoid that I would become fat! Looking back I know it seems so stupid, however in that moment I was so scared. Today, I am learning to accept that if I have a bad day and eat something I wish I hadn’t that it is ok. I still have days where I regret what I ate, but I am beginning to accept who I am.

The reason I wanted to clear this up is because although I post healthy recipes here, by no means do I eat healthy 100% of the time. Honestly, who does? I may be out all day and have no access to home made food and grab some chips and cookie. That is okay! Our world has been consumed by media and the ‘perfect meal’ and seriously there is no such thing.

Okay, rant over. Back to this AMAZING mug cake.

The use of whole wheat flour in the cake helps eliminate the use of processed flour, but also create the fudgy texture. I love whole wheat flour and find that it works so well in this mug cake to create a bouncy, decadent cake.

Maple syrup is also used as an alternative to sugar, and I love it! Maple syrup creates a beautiful rich taste, that is simple beautiful.

As always, if you make this healthy chocolate mug cake, please let me know how it turns out and share a photo!
